a beautifully scented house!

today we woke up and it was raining.  which was kind of a good thing since we have a lot to do before we go downstate for a visit.  if it was nice we probably would have procrastinated again and gone outside. 

first, valdemar and i made homemade granola bars.  they were quick to put together and scented the house beautifully while cooking.  they are delicious! 

after we made granola bars val started dinner... a venison roast that the neighbor gave us.  val helped him process the deer yesterday and was given the backstraps.  he found a recipe online that sounded delicious and went for it.  soon after it went in the oven, our house smelled like a thanksgiving feast was cooking for the rest of the day!  when the roast was done, val and i sat at the table with knife and fork in hand.  As val started to serve the wonderfully smelling meal, we quickly realized that we would not need our knives.  The meat just fell apart.  It was the most delicious meal i have had in while.  thanks val!

and, to finish up the day we started grinding our flour for making bread.  everyone helped and it was a lot of fun...

tomorrow we finish up grinding the flour and we make bread.  we also have to make apple cider and pack.  another busy day tomorrow.
